For those players looking for a handmade bow made by a modern maker, I invite you to inquire about trying one of my handmade bows. I was trained by a Master French bowmaker in the time-honored French tradition of bowmaking.
Previous to learning the time-honored craft of bowmaking, I focused my skills on the repair and restoration of bows, and was privileged to work on many fine examples of bows made by the old French, German, and English masters. Much of this experience has flowed over into the bows that I make today.
For all of my handmade bows, I use only quality, aged Brazilian pernambuco wood for the stick. Sterling silver is used for the button and all mountings on the frog. Flamed pearl is preferred for the eyes and slide, and the head is finished with a silver or fossil mammoth tip plate. The details and aesthetics of the bow are completed with a grip lapping that compliments the style and balance of the bow.
Specific attention to the tapering and cambering of the stick insures that my bows offer the incredible playability and tonal characteristics found only in a handmade bow. I offer custom options such as gold mountings, pearl inlays, or snakewood used in the frogs. I can further custom-tailor the playability of a bow to accommodate a player’s desire by controling properties such as the flexibility in the stick, the weight, and the balance. I encourage players seeking to have a bow made to their own ideas and specifications to contact me to discuss ideas and pricing. Prices for violin, viola, and cello bows start at $4500, and bass bows begin at $5000.
